Fuel cleanliness is absolutely essential, especially with the smaller outboard engines. Before you fill your engine, is the fuel clean, has it just come from an old can of fuel you have had lying about for literally years outside. Can you be 100% sure the fuel is clean and free from water.
Common problems we see are “engine won’t run properly”, “engine won’t idle”, “dies on applying throttle”.
This is a sample from a recent carburettor drain and not unusual.
If you are not 100% sure your fuel is clean and water free, simply don’t use it in your outboard.
